An Angel in the Family

A couple of things have really struck me as precious blessings at this time and I wanted to note them.  Two weeks ago we went on vacation and left Camille with her grandmothers.  This gave our grandparents their first real time to get to know Camille.  During this time Grandma Waite was able to write a song for Camille.  (she writes one for every grandchild and hadn't gotten to Camille's yet)  Also, last week we went to a Waite Family reunion where all the extended Waite family got to enjoy Camille.  At this reunion we took family photos.  I hadn't gotten a good one with Camille in it yet.  I cannot express how grateful I am that we have a decent family photo with her.  We also got some great individual shots of her and wonderful shots of her and me together.  The one above is one of those and just looks angelic to me.  How many people get to have a bonafide angel in their family?

Thanks again for the comment posts, and the prayers.  I have really felt strengthened today.  It has been so much better than yesterday and worlds better than the day before.  Day by day I guess.

Stephanie, yes, she is an angel. So beautiful. Did you ever notice me staring at her? I first noticed her your first Sunday in our ward when you took her to Gospel Doctrine class. She was so beautiful, I know I stared a lot and I often stared at she and your other girls. I think you caught me a time or two! My mom had 5 girls in 6.5 years and I figured we looked similar when she dragged us to (Catholic) church. I never got to hold Camille, never got to know her, but she made such an impression on me, I had pointed her out to Lloyd on that first day and he thought she was beautiful, too (as are all your girls).

I'm so glad you posted. I know this is such a sacred time for your family, but you have been on our minds so very much. Just glad you came up for a little blog and to know we are all thinking about you guys. Thanks for sharing your sweet angel with us again.

What a beautiful angel you have. A friend (Jori) directed me to your blog and I just wanted to let you know you and your family are in my prayers. My heart is aching for you all as you begin this journey. I lost my five year old to drowning last summer and while I can NEVER begin to say I know what you are going through, I can say that I sympathize. Many HUGS and many many prayers for you all.

Steph,
I just got your email and heard this news. It is so overwhelming. I wish I was there to cry with you. It has been so long since we have even talked. We have just been through a similar tragedy in our ward here in Oklahoma... a little one-year-old boy just drowned a few weeks ago, and we have been reeling from the news and the funeral as a ward family. Our bishop is the little boy's grandfather, and his family has told us amazing stories about events and (unbelieveably) blessing that have come from their tragedy. One thing they told us that really seemed comforting is that they have felt a personal witness that their little's boy's time to leave had come. They feel confident that if he had not gone back home in this way, there would have been some different accident or happening... it was simply his time. Their strength has been so inspiring to me. I guess I just tell this story to say that you are not alone in passing through such heavy trial. You will be in my prayers.

Stephanie, I am SO sorry to hear that you are walking down this road. I have a little angel in heaven too, she drowned exactly 4 months ago tomorrow.

I can see that God is surrounding you with his peace like he did for us, and I will keep praying for you.

I really have no words, but my heart goes out to you. May Jesus hold you very close,

It's hard to put in words what we feel for you and your family at this time, but we want you to know that you are thought of constantly and in our prayers. I know we can't do much to help but if you ever needed anything, we would be there for you.

Stephanie and Jon,
I, like Leslie Wiley, spent several Sunday's at church just watching your sweet Camille as she would look in our direction. I loved the way she would sort of bite the inside of her cheek, which would make her lips purse into a skinny pucker and along with those huge blue eyes, she was adorable! She had a smile for everyone who looked her way. She is an Angel!

Dearest Stephanie,
My heart is broken for you and your sweet family! You are so much in our prayers. I have often found comfort in 1 Peter 1:7 "...the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold..." May the healing that comes through the atonement of Christ be poured out upon you and your family this week and in the coming hours, weeks, months and years. Camille truly is a little angel!
I love you so much!

We have only just receieved the news of Camille's passing and our tears are yet falling as we leave these words of love and support.

Please know that our most sincere and heartfelt prayers are being offered on your behalf and that our hearts truly are tender as we think of you at this time.

We pray that the words of Joseph F. Smith, after losing several of his children, will bring you some comfort. He said, "And there too are gathered to my Father’s mansion all my darling lovely ones; not in infantile helplessness, but in all the power and glory and majesty of sanctified spirits! Full of intelligence, of joy and grace, and truth."

What a precious gift! The photo is priceless, how wonderful to be able to see the Lord's hand in the events of the past few weeks. We so often neglect to look back, but when we do it is hard not to recognize His presence in our lives.

The words to the hymn "How Firm a Foundation" came to mind today and immediately I thought of your family. "Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid. I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, Upheld by my righteous,...omnipotent hand."

Thank you for being willing to share your trial with us, so that we to, may be lifted up by the spirit that surrounds your sweet family.

My people were Mormon pioneers.
Is the blood still good?
They stood by in awe as truth
Flew by like a dove
And dropped a feather in the West.
Where truth flies you follow
If you are a pioneer.

I have searched the skies
And now and then
Another feather has fallen.
I have packed the handcart again
Packed it with the precious things
And thrown away the rest.

I will sing by the fires at night
Out there on uncharted ground
Where I am my own captain of tens
Where I blow the bugle
Bring myself to morning prayer
Map out the miles
And never know when or where
Or if at all
I will finally say,
“This is the place,”

I face the plains
On a good day for walking.
The sun rises
And the mist clears.
I will be alright:
My people were Mormon pioneers.

Stephanie- I'm sure you don't remember me, but we met at Nikki and Darren's wedding. My little girl is just a couple months younger then your sweet Camille, and I just want you to know how much my heart aches for you, and how absolutely amazing and strong you are. I've never quite understood why Heavenly Father gives us the trials that he does, and have always been told he gives us nothing that we can't handle, but I want you to know that your strength and faith is nothing short of inspirational. Many hugs and prayers your way.

Jonathan and Stephanie - I have not commented before now because I can only get blogs up at work, and I cry every time I think about your sweet Camille. I'm sure it is because I associate her with Aubrey and my other granddaughter Claire. We have been praying for you and your family. When Spencer called us on Saturday, one of my first thoughts was the Waite reunion and the pictures you had taken only a week earlier. I'm so happy you have those. At a funeral I attended a couple of weeks ago, I heard a quote I believe was attributed to Elder Nelson - "The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life." Your families are so full of love, so of course it hurts terribly. But your families are also a wonderful source of strength. May our Heavenly Father's spirit of love and peace and healing be with you.

Adorable, and what a valiant and perfect little spirit she must be. And what incredible parents you must be to have been chosen to be her parents. I am grateful to have the opportunity to know you and learn from your example and I hope that I can be the kind of parents you are. I pray for you and wish there was something more that I could do. I am so grateful you have the gospel to bring you peace at this time, amidst the grief. I love Alma 7:11-12 because it reminds me that even if no one else understands exactly how I am feeling about any particular thing, Christ does, because he already suffered it for me, and because he understands, he knows how best to comfort me, if I let him. I pray that you will be able to continually turn to him for comfort as your grief washes over you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
Much love and prayers,

What a beautiful little picture. She surely is angelic. My prayers are constantly with you and I have been staggered by your strength. You seem to be taking this all in stride. Coping so well. It is humbling for me. I know that in a time like this sometimes the best thing is just space. The time to figure it all out for yourself, to properly morn your loss and find the beauty in her life. I am hoping you are being allowed that time, that privacy.
As always if there is anything I can do, please let me know my prayers are always with you...
